[Solved] Gnome crashes/restarts

Hi,
I had these weird crashes with kdm and found a temporary solution which was switching off Direct Rendering. It stopped the crashes by a huge amount but they still kept happening randomly.

What happened would be
Blank screen > Nvidia Screen> Kde login

So annoyed with it I decided to get gnome and delete kdm. The problem with gnome right now is the same thing which happened with kde except only on battery mode. It hasnt happened so far in 12+ hours when its connected to AC power.

I'm beginning to think its a nvidia issue rather than a issue with BOTH the environments. Any fix to this?

Forgot to mention specs

Intel Core i7 720qm
Nvidia GTX 260m 1GB(on latest nvidia driver)
8 GB 1333Mhz ddr3
500 Gb HDD

Ok I can confirm these crashes are only occuring on battery-mode so far and they're random. Tell me if you need to see any specific log files, I'll post them here.

Damn! The crashes happened on powered mode as well. Twice when loading a youtube video(flash :@) and twice randomly.

Removed 'on battery' from title of the thread.

Am gonna try nouveau drivers as I read they are a good alternative to nvidia drivers and anyways am not gonna be doing any 3d rendering.

I got nouveau, followed the arch-wiki about it. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nouveau
It asked me to blacklist the nvidia driver incase I had it installed, which I did but it didnt work, so I uninstalled the nvidia driver. Then I rebooted and gnome started on fallback mode, googled it and https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=926307 this thread showed up where someone said to install nouveau-dri. Did that and seems to be working . I really hope this doesnt crash on me and I have a feeling it wont .

Nouveau drivers are working fine not one crash till now. Animations seem a tiny bit sloppy, but I can live with that. Nvidia sucks at making drivers! I get bluescreens on windows while playing DotA.
