Hi,
When I try to unmount my mp3 player using thunar, it doesn't unmount it (No problems with normal usb memories). When I fuser on it, after I tried unmount it, there seems to be like 10 processes using it. When I force quit them with
fuser -m /dev/sdc --kill
I return to terminal (jumping from X) and see a page full of errors. I can return to X with ctrl+alt+f7. My mp3 player is this: "Philips GoGear SA2RGA02SN RaGa 2GB"
I am using xfce4, with all group + xfce4-utils installed. I don't use login manager, my xinitrc and .bash_profile is as follows:
[[ -f ~/.bashrc ]] && . ~/.bashrc
startx
if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ]; then
for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/*; do
[ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
done
unset f
fi
exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch xfce4-session
So, I was wondering what is the problem, and is there a way to make is work normally.

Yo Dawg, I heard you likes patches, so I have created a patch for your patch, so you can patch your patches before you patch.

Can you find out what those 10 processes are? And can you unmount it with "sudo umount /dev/sdc1"?

I realized that fuser -m /dev/sdc gives all processes owned by me at that moment. For example, it give me a list of processes that corresponds to this:

And also, I can unmount it from terminal (it seems to be normally unmounted) but when I unplug it, it send me terminal (tty1), and in a couple of secons I can switch back to tty7 again.

And also, even after I unplug it, I can still see it under /dev/disk/by-id as a broken link.

Bump! Still unresolved.

Such bumping is unproductive. This is how I understand the issue. You have an mp3 player plugged in and thunar claims that a process is using it. If you do one of three things:
1. kill that process
2. "sudo umount" the drive and then unplug it
3. unplug it without a "sudo umount"
you are "sent back to tty1" even though X is still running and can be accessed again on tty7.
What model of mp3 player is it? Does this happen with other usb devices (the mp3 player is usb right)? Try to find out if the player uses media transfer protocol or mass-storage device or a VFAT filesystem or something else. If there is proprietary weirdness on your mp3 player maybe there is a tool that can get rid of it or reformat it. For example, my USB drive came with some insecure Windows only thing called U3. To get rid of it, I downloaded the U3 uninstall tool and ran it on a Windows box with my USB drive mounted.
Something that could shed light on the issue... how are you mounting the device? If you use auto-mounting try turning that off and seeing if the problem still persists if you mount the mp3 storage manually with the "mount" command.
