runaway loop modprobe error after upgarde

Hi,
I've a laptop with Arch (32b)/KDE installed.
After the last upgrade, which, among others, included also a kernel upgrade, I can't boot:
After selecting the Arch from the GRUB ( ver 1.97) menu, I immediately get 5 identical lines saying:
"runaway loop modprobe binfmt-0000".

The same happens also while selecting the fallback arch from GRUB.

Please advise!
