To keep it short is the support for x64 (64bit) linux better now with binary packages in the repository and stuff?
Thinking of switching from my win7 64bit to arch 64bit but i remember that linux used to have big problems with x64 back in the days and 32bit was superior.
Another question: is it possible to get the multiple workspaces function with openbox + pypanels etc?
Finally thinking of moving to arch from windows since my gaming days are over for sure and i only do php web development and some python/java programming.

64bit inux is fine, regardless of distro.
Openbox has always had multiple workspaces. Try the various panels available to find one that meets your needs.

64 bit user here!
In my opinion 64 bit now works as well as, if not better than 32 bit.
I currently use openbox with tint2 as my panel. Multiple workspaces are built in and work very well.
