Android phone's sd card is now unmountable

Hello Arch forums,
I own an HTC Desire that I just updated to the latest cyanogenmod.
Now my machine refuse to mount it, I keep getting the "wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock".
Here's the output of dmesg

[ 143.561902] sd 10:0:0:0: [sdg] 7698432 512-byte logical blocks: (3.94 GB/3.67 GiB)
[ 143.563911] sd 10:0:0:0: [sdg] Assuming drive cache: write through
[ 143.569929] sd 10:0:0:0: [sdg] Assuming drive cache: write through
[ 143.573512] sdg: sdg1
[ 149.044653] FAT: bogus number of reserved sectors
[ 149.044658] VFS: Can't find a valid FAT filesystem on dev sdg.
[ 172.787935] NET: Registered protocol family 10
[ 190.351627] FAT: bogus number of reserved sectors
[ 190.351632] VFS: Can't find a valid FAT filesystem on dev sdg.

I just checked it on my Windows boot and it showed no problems whatsoever, I formatted it and the result is still the same.

Re: Android phone's sd card is now unmountable

Try to delete and then re-create the only partition on your sd card. Then format it, and try to mount it to see if it worked. All from within Linux, don't use Windows to do it.

I'm not exactly sure why, but it solved a very similar issue I had with my usb stick a few weeks back.

Running arch is like raising a puppy - if you spend a bit of time with it each day and do just a bit of training you'll end up with the most loyal partner you could want; if you lock it in a room and don't check on if for several days, it'll tear apart your stuff and poop everywhere.

Re: Android phone's sd card is now unmountable

I deleted the partition and remade it with gpart + dostools only to be greeted with:

[21693.931491] usb 2-1.2: new high speed USB device number 6 using ehci_hcd

More of the same?

Re: Android phone's sd card is now unmountable

In my opinion, when linux can't mount a partition it just created and formatted, then everything points to a hardware issue, i.e. faulty sd card. It shouldn't be caused by any other piece of hardware, since neither your phone nor linux can read it. Windows just might be more lenient and keep going where Linux stops because of a faulty block. Maybe your upgrading to a newer ROM is just a coincidence? I can't see how upgrading could mess with it anyway, your card shouldn't even get touched during the process, if it was even plugged in. But this is all just speculation, I don't really know that much about such problems, maybe someone else could shed more light into it.

One last thing I can think of is trying another FAT formatted card in your phone, to see if it can be used properly. If it can be read, then I'd really say that your problem is caused by faulty sd card. It's just my reasoning that leads me to this conclusion though, I don't have anything to back it up with. Sorry I couldn't give you a better answer.
