I have an iBook G3 upon which I just installed ArchPPC (http://archlinuxppc.org), but I have a bit of an issue. It boots up just fine, until it reaches the point when it mounts the phylical root partition under /new_root in the initrd. At that point, it prints:
<code>
Waiting 10 seconds for device /dev/sda3 ...
Root device '/dev/sda3' doesn't exist. Attempting to create it.
ERROR: Unable to determine major/minor number of root device '/dev/sda3'.
</code>
It then drops me into a ramfs recovery shell. I've run an ls on /dev, and there are no disks listed at all. My root partition is indeed /dev/sda3, and it's ext3, so that shouldn't be the issue. I'm also using the default kernel26-pmac package, which generated an initrd for me... I'm wondering if there's a module I need in my initrd?
Thanks

I ran into this problem -- had to chroot from the install disc and add pata_macio to the modules section of mkinitcpio.conf then reinstall the kernel

There is no system but GNU and Linux is one of its kernels.
