Hi folks,
I've been trying off and on since I got this laptop to get vertical scrolling working. I don't really care about multitouch gestures although this touchpad is multitouch capable. It is an alps touchpad and the main problem is that it is not being recognized by the kernel. It is getting recognized as a standard mouse.

Googling the problem has turned up a ton of bug reports but unfortunately everything I've tried so far hasn't worked. Somewhere I read that ubuntu has included a patch, so I downloaded 11.04 and tried it out, lo and behold it showed up as an Alps Glidepoint. It really got to me, and I finally decided to ask for some help.
EDIT: Solved
Installed psmouse-alps (AUR) fixed the problem. I now have 2 finger scrolling YaY!

Dont know if this helps, but i have an Acer TimlineX and have vertical scrolling sorted. Did you install xf86-input-synaptics ? I added this file too:
