[SOLVED] System freeze during hdd activity.

Hello everyone.

When disk is performing r/w operation my system (2.6.39-ARCH) soft-freezes and responses very slowly. I found that problem occurs under X window and only console. I tried to change I/O scheduler but it changes nothing. I was looking for solution of this problem unsuccessfully so I decided to post here.

Laptop: MSI FX620DX

My problem is similar to problem posted here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=121000 but hdparm makes only a little difference...

Yes. I'm trying to mix all the advices to create the best solution for me. Is it good idea to use ionice for jbd2? And out of topic question - are You from Poland?

I have no idea wrt the effects of ionice on jbd2 but I wouldn't be surprised if they wouldn't amount to much.
Yes, I'm from Poland (and in English you don't write 'You' with a capital letter as you do in Polish ;P ).

Re: [SOLVED] System freeze during hdd activity.

I added noatime to fstab and changed commit from 0 to 60 (by modyfing pm-utils configuration files) and lowered the priority of jbd2. Effect? Problem is gone. I also used hdparm. I didn't describe it in my first post, but this problem occurred even if disk should be idle, about one time for 30 seconds. Now it's all OK.

I don't know why but I thought that using capital letter in "You" is language independent. Greetings from Wroclaw:)
