I have had so much trouble getting packages downloaded and installed without an internet connection, so I figured I will download the entire current repository, and put it on my hard drive, and then use that to install all my packages. What is the easiest way to download this, without doing it one file at a time.

It seems it might be a little difficult to download and install packages without the internet you could try rsync or wget. Does this box not have a connection, or was the connection slow?

Okay, my box at home does not have the internet, but i can probably con my sister into downloading stuff for me at her house. I would like to download an entire mirror worth of packages, and then transport them to myself, with the use of an ipod....

She is a windows user though...

You should be able to just get the files via FTP. I hope your sister has a fast internet connection!

You should probably get both current and extra. You should probably also pick a mirror that is close to you. You should probably be careful running a distro that depends on being able to stay up-to-date dynamically over the net when you don't have an internet connection.

I would forget about trying to keep every package up to date if you dont have internet connection. I'm in a similar situation as you. with no internet to my computer most of the time. I would just focus on getting the latest version of your de or wm. the latest xorg is on the new install cd isnt it?

I just upgrade when a program actually improves something or adds a feature that will make a difference. Most upgrades are just small bug fixes that dont affect me anyways.

Other than that i keep the base up to date but most "base" packages dont do weekly versions that seem to be the trend. so its pretty simple.
