Cannot mount devices under KDE

I'm unable to mount any device (hd or usb) under KDE using Dolphing, i'ts says:

Cannot mount device: XXX - An unspecified error has occurred.: Not Authorized

Also I'm getting: "Activation of org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit timed out" when I login into KDE using KDM, I don't know if this 2 issues are related.

Using latest KDE 4.7.0-1 Testing repo enabled.

Thanks!

Can you mount by hand?
How do you start KDE, please post the relevant files.

1) I start KDE by setting runlevel 5 in /etc/inittab
2) I can mount for example an ntfs partition doing:

sudo mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdaX /media/X

Do you need any other info?

My /etc/rc.conf (only daemons)

DAEMONS=(dbus hwclock @syslog-ng @network @sshd @crond @httpd @redis @mysqld @mpd)

Thanks again!

Re: Cannot mount devices under KDE

I have to same problem with KDE not mounting my USB drive.  This happened after a system update. Unfortunately i can't remember exactly when this issue started.

KDE starts with KDM, using the inittab method, by uncommenting the lines:

# Boot to X11
id:5:initdefault:

(...)

x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/kdm -nodaemon

and commenting the line:

id:3:initdefault:

If i logout KDE and start it using the command line (startx) my USB drive mounts successfully.  My ~/.xinitrc line is below:

exec ck-launch-session startkde

My user belongs to the storage group and my rc.conf daemons list is as follows:

DAEMONS=(!hwclock syslog-ng network !netfs crond dbus wicd powernowd cupsd !kdm)

Re: Cannot mount devices under KDE

Starting KDM on boot using the kdm daemon method instead of inittab one doesn't solve the issue.

Thanks in advance

Re: Cannot mount devices under KDE

I'm starting a fresh install of KDE through CDM (startkde) instead and it's unable to mount SD cards or USB sticks with Dolphin aswell. PCManFM also tells me I'm unauthorized to access those drives.

Oh and the KDE version is 4.7.0-1

Re: Cannot mount devices under KDE

hi, i had the same problem, and i changed policykit as suggested in wiki:

If you want to mount a external drive on KDE or Gnome (maybe on other Desktop Environments too) as a normal user (without the need to type your superuser password) you just have to edit the /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.udisks.policy (remember to backup first) and change the line <allow_active>auth_admin_keep</allow_active> on <action id="org.freedesktop.udisks.filesystem-mount-system-internal"> to <allow_active>yes</allow_active>.

and it didn't work until i changed my ~.xinitrc from:
exec openbox-session

to:
exec ck-launch-session openbox-session

Re: Cannot mount devices under KDE

I had the same problem, and solved it by coming across this thread. However, I didn't need to change /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.udisks.policy. I wasn't running ck-launch-session in my .xinitrc, but now I am, and it works.
