Network power usage.

I'm trying to increase my battery life, and have managed to reach an acceptable level, except for one issue that bothers me.

When running powerTOP, my wired ethernet card (eth0) is listed as using 8W of power, even though it is disconnected. On the other hand, my wifi, which I'm using shows a 0W usage.

Now my question is: Is this a display error in powerTOP or is there something I can do to improve the situation?

This is all on an Lenovo x220 thinkpad with intel wifi and ethernet.
