I'm setting up a new machine with an xgi Z7/Z9 XG20 core video on the motherboard. I don't need much, but I could use this working. I keep getting the above error; Xorg.0.log also contains:
Failed to load module "xgi" (invalid module, 0)
Found a posting where someone solved this by reloading xf86-video-xgixp; this has not worked for me. Right now I can get x started, but gnome is giving me a blank screen.
Update: Found the gnome problem; I was trying to use the new gnome-shell startup command, reverting to exec gnome-session got gnome up, with a note that my system is in fallback. Also installed everything in the gnome package, so I'm not sure which of these solved it.
