Surround sound in Pulseaudio

I have just switched one of my boxes over to pulseaudio instead of ALSA, I have been having problems with ALSA on this box as of late.  Anyways this machine has a 5.1 surround sound speaker setup and I was wondering if there is anything special I need to do in order to get pulseaudio to upmix the audio to 5.1 or if it will do this automatically.  I didn't see anything in the wiki related to this

Have you seen this:?

However, not sure how that works with PulseAudio but look here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pu … nd_systems

I'm not sure if the same upmixing rules for ALSA will work with Pulseaudio because when installing Pulseaudio it has to install a custom asound configuration files, kind of why I posted here asking.
