[Wanted] Music Player with Configurable Album Browser

I've been looking for ages now to find a music player that let's me browse my music the way I want. Firstly I'm very weird in that I actually listen to albums, not playlists. Secondly I have my extensive music collection sorted by and thus would like to be able to browse by: Genre > Artist > Year > Album
(A fantastic bonus would be to be able to browse by: "Genre" > if exist="Albumartist" then ignore "Artist" (but still display it) else "Artist" > "Year" > "Album")
for proper display and searchability of compilations and classical albums, etc.)

Problem is, that about 99% of all music players only offer a three column browser that is usually not even configurable. I've tried Clementine, which is a really nice player, but the tree view click-a-rama is a bit too fiddely for my clumsy mouse operations and not really there yet. My personal favourite to browse my music would be the way ncmpcpp's Media Library works, just with a few more columns. I tried pms (pmus) which is very nice and configurable and it does allow me to display multible columns, but I can't browse in categories, it's just one long list. And no, I do not want to use a search function as a work-around.

Ario is the only one I found that lets me kind of do what I want, but I would prefer a console program.

What I don't need are (doesn't mean that I don't want them): playlist handling, search functions, lyrics, Internet capabilities (lastfm, etc.), album downloads, tag editing capabilities, and pretty much anything that isn't doing what I described above.

So my question is, does anyone know of a player that would offer anything like this, or maybe one that could be customised to what I want, or maybe, dare I say it, is there someone out there who would feel inclined to program yet another mpd client ... :-) ?

Thanks

Re: [Wanted] Music Player with Configurable Album Browser

ncmpcpp can be configured to display (and browse) whatever you want (in classic mode), assuming you have your tags correct.

i.e. https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 01#p907101

Firstly I'm very weird in that I actually listen to albums, not playlists.

Playlists are so 90's, I listen albums-only too.

Re: [Wanted] Music Player with Configurable Album Browser

Thanks teh, I've been using ncmpcpp for quite a while now, but what you're talking about is only the stuff that's already in the playlist. I'm talking about the library (when you press [5]). There are only three columns available: Artists, Albums, and Songs. I know I could use the browser [3], but there is no one button to add the entire Artist or Album, as you can in the Library. In the library I can just press 'enter' or 'space' to add / append the whole lot.
Or am I missing some special configuration syntax?
Thanks

Edit: Okay, just realised that I can actually add the whole Artist/Album with space in Browser view (never actually used the browser), but still, I do prefer the Media Library for browsing as it requires a lot less key presses.
