NVIDIA and compositing

Hey guys

i run a very nice nvidia GTX 460 1GB SE with the latest drivers

ok basically after experience alot of screen tearing in a certain game i play whilst on XFCE4. and trying multiple fix's, these included TwinMonitor disabling, Sync to VBlank, xorg additions.

I found that compositing was causing my screen tearing, i also experienced this problem with compiz in gnome. 2 completely different DE's and when any sort of compositing is enabled, screen tearing appears

I researched this issue and found many many forum posts from many different distro's reporting the same error with nvidia

So im wondering if anyone has a permanent fix or workaround, or if anyone else experiences this issue

Re: NVIDIA and compositing

You can enable the testing repo and grab the new nvidia drivers. Think its version 280. I have the same card as you and many of the same problems. No one seems to interested in fixing it so I've been forced to spend more time in windows lately sad

Re: NVIDIA and compositing

I had the same issue and I resolved it by disabling the Composite extension. I can live without the eye candy that compositing provides.

Re: NVIDIA and compositing

small report, i found this reported multiple times in KWin AND XFWM - seems to be a vsync issue with nvidia drivers and Nouveau

Re: NVIDIA and compositing

just to update again, i found this

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=n … &px=NzY1Ng

http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/CompositeSwap

http://phoronix.com/forums/showthread.p … post153218

i am aware to most of this seems like old news, but im curious if this can be applied to the new kernels and if this could be a fix, because the problems still exsistant

But i dont understand what there saying, there talking about kernel .33 and were on .38 these days or 3.0. so im not seeing these improvements, or maybe i missed something but theres no clear instructions on applying these fix's to XFCE/nvidia drivers or other WM's , seems native in mutter
