Font height changed with freetype 2.4.6

I've searched the forums about this issue, but the ones I've found seem to exhibit different problems and different solutions for them. The problem that I have is that all my fonts have a different apparent height after upgrading to freetype 2.4.6.

Here are screenshots showing the difference:

2.4.6:

Is anyone else experiencing this? Is this a bug, or is this intended behavior? And if it's a bug, is there a fix yet?

Yes...  but I have not looked for a solution yet.

Re: Font height changed with freetype 2.4.6

The same thing happened to me.  It's an intentional change to have more consistent line spacing.  It forced me to change point size for Xterm but was otherwise benign.

See this post from the freetype-dev mailing list: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/freet … 00049.html

The change was noted in the ChangeLog, with typical freetype understatement:

2011-07-16  Steven Chu  <email address deleted by thisoldman>

    [truetype] Fix metrics on size request for scalable fonts.

    * src/truetype/ttdriver.c (tt_size_request): Fix copying metrics
    from TT_Size to FT_Size if scalable font.
