Espeak Error

I recently switched from Debian to Arch and so far I am very happy with the switch. However a program that I have integrated into various scripts is throwing me errors.  I have been searching forums / net for the past two weeks and have come up dry.

Error -->
__________________________________________________________
[joe@Arch-Tux ~]$ echo Hello Joe | espeak
wave_open_sound > Pa_OpenStream : err=-9996 (Invalid device)
wave_open_sound > Pa_OpenStream : err=-9996 (Invalid device)
wave_open_sound > Pa_OpenStream : err=-9996 (Invalid device)
wave_open_sound > Pa_OpenStream : err=-9996 (Invalid device)
wave_open_sound > Pa_OpenStream : err=-9996 (Invalid device)
____________________________________________________________

Audio works fine with all other applications.

I have found a work around but it is not what I want.

espeak "Espeak does not like my new Arch Linux set up" --stdout | aplay
___________________________________________________________________

I am running Gnome 3 with pulse audio.

Any thoughts ?

Re: Espeak Error

Welcome to the forums.

When pasting code, please use [ code ] tags https://bbs.archlinux.org/help.php#bbcode

like this

It makes the code more readable and more convenient to scroll through.

espeak works fine w/ alsa - both 'echo Hello Joe | espeak' and the workaround.
