[solved] Any way to remove the gnome-panel in fallback mode in gnome3?

Pretty much as the topic asks. Every time I try to remove the panel, a new process is spawned, and the best I can hope for is to run dconf-editor at each login and then set the layout options to default (which both default to display nothing, which is kinda odd imo, but it's the way I'd prefer it). At least then the panel is hidden, but I'd like to be running my own dock instead of gnome's panel while still running gnome. I've been looking for hours to try and figure out what is causing the panel to come back on each login, but I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Removing gnome-panel from the RequiredComponents array in /usr/share/gnome-sessions/sessions/gnome-fallback.sessions works for me.
