I removed my Radeon 5770 earlier today because I don't really need it and it makes too much noise. I thought it would be fine to just take it out and reboot since my integrated graphics is Radeon 4200 and ought to use the same driver. Unfortunately, now X won't start. I've tried an aticonfig --initial and rebooted but it hasn't helped. In Xorg.0.log, there's some warnings:
[ 8.143] (WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/OTF/" does not exist.
[ 8.184] (WW) Open ACPI failed (/var/run/acpid.socket) (No such file or directory)
[ 8.296] (WW) Warning, couldn't open module xtrap
[ 8.473] (WW) Falling back to old probe method for fglrx
[ 8.553] (WW) fglrx: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:0@1:5:0) found
I think that PCI device is my old GPU. Where is that coming from? I should be able to automatically configure this the way it was automatically configured when I first installed Catalyst, right?
EDIT: Nevermind, I'm just going to use the open source driver. I'm sick of jumping through these hoops for 3D acceleration that I don't really need.
