VLC-player blocks shutdown

Hello,

I am using XFCE4 and are not able to shutdown my pc while vlc is running. This can be sometimes quite annoying since it is not possible to close the vlc window after pushing the button "shutdown" from the XFCE4 menu.
Do you know any solution or what causes this problem?
