How does Xfce 4.8 hibernate work ?

Works out-of-the-box for me w/ pm-utils w/ no configuration required outside of adjusting the sliders in xfce4-power-manager-settings.

Edit: You do have to add a resume kernel option to your boot config. That and more are covered in depth on the wiki page for pm-utils: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pm-utils
