java is b0rked?

I think that my java is somehow broken.. Suddenly starting azureus does nothing and starting openoffice2 yields the very helpful "the application cannot be started. an internal error occured". Running from terminal provides no extra information.

I've tried reinstalling j2re (and azureus) and it hasn't helped. Azureus was just working a few days ago, and the only packages I updated recently were openoffice2, vte, grip, and libgnomecanvas.

I have no idea how to diagnose the problem. Any ideas??

nice one, he did already... be sure to read before you answer... roll

anyway, did you by any chance install stuff from testing/unstable? it might be that a linkage of j2re to gtk2, glibc or others are borked cos of that? if that is the cae i suggest to remove testing/unstable packages and replace them with the "stable" once. then see what happens.

Re: java is b0rked?

I just updated openoffice2 and I too got the error you describe. However, the Java package is ok, and I can run other Java apps fine.

I reverted back to openoffice2-1.9.95-1 and that works fine again. I agree with kth5 here, the problems are most likely related to using unstable packages - revert back to ones that worked ok.

Re: java is b0rked?

I have the same problem after upgrading openoffice2. But how do I revert to the older version? It seems to me like they are removed from the repos.

(I'm at the uni now, and really in need of checking a document of mine...)

What I did was:

pacman -Rs openoffice2

in /var/cache/pacman/pkg are all the packages you've downloaded (unless you've cleared the cache). In there should be a package for the last working openoffice.

pacman -A /var/cache/pacman/pkg/openoffice2-[your last working version].pkg.tar.gz
You'll also need to install the your spelling file
pacman -A /var/cache/pacman/pkg/openoffice2-spell[tab to autocomplete!]

That should do it.

Re: java is b0rked?

Thanks aroo, that did fix oo2. I wonder why azureus is still broken though, it's a mighty strange coincidence that they both broke on the same day and both use java..

Ah well, a working oo2 is much more important at this point smile

Re: java is b0rked?

Had Azureus been updated recently too? If so, maybe rolling that back (or simply removing and reinstalling) may help.

Also, a bug report or two would be beneficial for the package maintainers - I'll let you have a go smile
