[SOLVED] Acer Aspire One 722: Can't get BCM4313 working

This is using the broadcom-wl drivers obtained from the AUR.

I've followed the wiki to the T and still can't get it to work.

At one point I was able to scan and use the command:
iwconfig wlan0 essid "linksys" key "s:pass1

After checking to see if it worked, it never connected to the access point and I still could not get online.

After some continual tinkering and removing the drivers and trying it all over again I'm at another impasse now.

When trying to scan for networks I get the error:

wlan0 Failed to read scan data : Invalid argument

And then trying to connect to the network by specifying the essid and key I get a new error.

Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) :
SET failed on device wlan0 : Invalid argument.

And now suddenly my eth0 connection isn't working either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I've been stuck at this point for about 2 days now.  Thanks.

Did you install the firmware for broadcom?
Tell us more about the wired network (eth0) -- does it show up in ip link  ??
In all seriousness, did you check the Ethernet cable? Twice? Are the link lights (if they exist) on on both the computer and the router?

BCM4313 is supported by brcmsmac, try that instead of wl. If you're using wl though, the device will be ethX, not wlanX.

@ewaller: wl has built-in firmware, there's no need for extra firmware installation. An brcmsmac has firmware in the linux-firmware package, which is a dependency of the linux package.

I understand that the firmware comes with the package.

My ethernet device is an Atheros AR8152, which worked fine during setup and up until I began going through the broadcom-wl melodrama.

Yes, eth0 shows up in ip link however it doesn't get an ip address anymore.  I've tried several reboots, restarting my modem/router etc, and still no go.

I'll give brcmsmac a try later this evening, thanks for the suggestion.

And you're correct using wl eth0 and wlan0 switched but I used the fixed mention in the wiki and binded the respective interfaces to their MAC addresses to avoid that.

Re: [SOLVED] Acer Aspire One 722: Can't get BCM4313 working

I have another question, when I am using the wireless do I have to add another entry to rc.conf and specify wlan0 as another interface along with its gateway, etc or do I just change the current eth0 to wlan0?

Thanks folks.

I'm not sure rc.conf even works for wireless. I'd advise using netcfg.

And another thing I remembered - the bcma module might conflict with brcmsmac, so blacklist bcma.

Thank you so much for the suggestions.  I finally have wireless working.  If I could, I'd give you a bro hug IRL.  Thanks alot.  This has been eating at me for 3 days and now it's finally working.  Thank you.
