Grub Error 16

This morning booting my machine led to a blinking cursor, no grub.

So booting into Knoppix to fix it I ran from grub:

root (hd0,0)
setup (hd0)
    Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists...yes
    Checking if "/boot/grub/stage2" exists...no

Error 16: Inconsistent filesystem structure

Now doing 'ls' of /boot/grub gives:

Permission denied: menu.lst
Permission denied: stage2

and so on for a few other files. I can only access stage1, menu.lst.pacnew and stage2.eltorito

Any ideas?

Re: Grub Error 16

fixed it (finally!) after booting the Arch setup disk and running 'Install Bootloader'.

Re: Grub Error 16

bollocks to that. First reboot and it's the same error again. Back to square one. Anyone experienced this?

Re: Grub Error 16

Hi dogbait,
I experienced that today.... My filesystem is reiser.
I bootet to Ubuntu live CD and ran resierfsck --check /dev/hda2
It said that my filesystem was corrupted, and I should run  reiserfsck --rebuild-index /dev/hda2
Since then it works fine again!
Hope, it helps!
