I recently have started using adesklets and it just doesn't feel right. I've been using 1152x864 for as long as I remember, but now I think 1280x960 might be better. It allows me to align the desklets more evenly. However the fonts look funny on that resolution. Perhaps I just need to get used to that.
So I'm wondering, what is the 'normal' or 'standard' screen resolution? I couldn't really find what the default screen size to use is.
I guess monitor dimensions are also very important. I've got a 19" monitor.

have you tried specifying your screen dimension in xorg.conf?
Here is the start of mine for a 17inch screen:
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "han"
HorizSync 30-95
VertRefresh 47-160
Option "DPMS"
DisplaySize 320 240

Maybe you need to configure DPI and such via /etc/fonts/local.conf. What sort of monitor is this you're using. I assume just a non-widescreen 19" CRT type? I've had good luck with 1280x1024 and things looking less 'crappy' than 1280x960.

I think 1280x1024 should be added to the poll since it's a very commonly used res. Anyway, I had to vote "other" because it's not already in the poll.

Oops, I forgot to add 1280x1024 to the list. It doesn't seem I can modify the poll anymore though.
And thanks for the tips, I'll be checking them out!
Yup, I use a non widescreen CRT.

Did it for ya... dunno if only Moderators can do this or not... but dibble did it before...
You need to edit the first post and it should have the poll junk at the bottom...

I've been trying out a bit and filled in my displaysize.
2046 jaguar $ xdpyinfo | grep resolution
resolution: 88x94 dots per inch
2056 jaguar $ xdpyinfo | grep dimens
dimensions: 1280x1024 pixels (369x277 millimeters)
2056 jaguar $
I'm getting pretty close to an even dpi.
I found this site very useful: http://ed.asisaid.com/fontfight.html
But still, I feel like getting a headache with this high resolution.
So perhaps I'll try using a large font. Makes me wonder what font settings you guys use?
Me:
Sans 10 // Anti-Alias // Slight pixel hinting

This poll is for Screen Resolution or Display Resolution (X by Y).
Resolution is technically Z-DPI (Dots per Inch).
I would hate having a monitor set to 1280 x 1040 (what I voted for) at 1-DPI. That would be a big screen.
At least that is what I thought.

Even though it wasn't specified, I think it's implied by the poll values... if one was to make a poll like this:
Which is better?
1) Gnome
2) KDE
3) Other
No one's going to go "which what is better? your poll doesn't specify!" because it's impled by the data presented

I didn't mean to be an ass if that is what you think. Sorry to all if I came across that way.
I thought it would be something people might be interested in knowing.
Now, lets get back on topic, sorry for the interuption.

In arch linux, I am limited to 1400 x 1050
(cant seem to get the NAGA3 any higher in XOrg7)
In Win2kPro I easily reach 1600 x 1050
I stand corrected 1600x1050 in Xorg7 now, amazing what reading can do
