Startx results in System Lockup

Hi all! I have a astaro asg525-ar firewall server that I am installing arch on. For other reasons, it is necessary to have a gui as well. To this point, I have run:

pacman -Syu
pacman -S xorg fluxbox xorg-utils xorg-server-utils
pacman -S xf86-video-siliconmotion (Graphics driver for the integrate graphics chip)
X -configure
logout (To underprivileged account)

Now at this point, I was expecting to find a .xintrc file in my home folder and a xorg.conf in /etc/X11. I found neither. When I then attempted to startx, the screen goes all black and the computer is unresponsive (e.g. unable to switch ttys) other than ctrl-alt-del restarting the machine.
Anyone have any ideas? I have looked around, and the only instance similar to this I have seen was fixed by deleting etc/X11/xorg.conf, which I do not have.

Re: Startx results in System Lockup

'pacman -S xorg' is bad, very bad. Remove it and install only the packages you need.
Please follow the wiki carefully.

Ok, removed xorg, reinstalled:

xorg-server
xorg-xinit
xorg-server-utils
xorg-utils
xf86-video-silicon-motion
xorg-twm
xterm

Still no dice.

Any errors in the logs?
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
/var/log/kernel.log

Re: Startx results in System Lockup

Hmm

 #tail /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.
Fatal server error:
no screens found

I wonder if its looking for a default screen in the wrong place?

Full logs please. If they're big, post them somewhere online and link here.

Re: Startx results in System Lockup

I would love to, except I don't have any idea how I would get the logs off of the server with no usb support. Or post to the internet from the command line.

If you can't boot a liveCD / liveUSB, try https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pastebin_Clients

Re: Startx results in System Lockup

Have you checked any siliconmotion-related threads like https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=548974 ? Keep in mind that this thread (any most others you'll find) is pretty old and things might have changed quite a bit wrt to Arch Linux: package names, settings etc. You can experiment with various xorg.conf settings.
I don't think I can help much here.
