Hi guys,
I'm having trouble connecting to my wired ethernet. I'm using networkmanager, and wireless works fine. However, it will not connect to wired connections, and when I run sudo dhcpcd eth0 I get:
dhcpcd[2044]: version 5.2.12 starting
dhcpcd[2044]: eth0: waiting for carrier
dhcpcd[2044]: timed out
Does anyone know what's going on?

Are you sure your device is up?
You can try (as root):
ifcfg eth0 up
and the run the dhcpcd
Offline
Post the output of 'ip add list'.
Offline
sudo ifcfg eth0 up:
/usr/sbin/ifcfg: line 25: [: up: integer expression expected
/usr/sbin/ifcfg: line 26: [: up: integer expression expected
/usr/sbin/ifcfg: line 27: [: up: integer expression expected
/usr/sbin/ifcfg: line 28: [: up: integer expression expected
arping: unknown host up
Error: some host already uses address up on eth0.
And dhcpcd didn't work still. What is ifcfg anyways, is it the same as ifconfig eth0 up?

Why are you using dhcpd? If you're connecting to a router it will have its' own dhcp daemon.
You're just jealous because the voices only talk to me.

Check your cable. You won't get anywhere without a carrier. All that usually takes is a good cable and a live port to hook it to.
Does your NIC have a carrier and/or activity lights? Are the lit?
How about your router/switch/hub/modem? Is it plugged in and turned on? Does it have anunciators? are they lit?

The cable and connectors work fine, I can connect under windows 7. It's a problem with linux somewhere. Networkmanager also tries to automatically connect, but it never works.

Fair enough. But until you do get a carrier, don't waste your time on things like dhcpcd which operate on the higher levels of the stack. The physical and transport layers have to be working first. Could you post the output of lspci -vv (That is two v's, not a w) ??
