Browser-based video playback in Xfce vs Gnome

Why would streaming videos play much more smoothly in Firefox under Gnome than in Firefox under Xfce?

I have both DEs installed on the same machine, and I'm running the same copy of Firefox under both.

Thanks.

Do you have compositing enabled in xfce? That's the only difference I can think of.

Thanks for your reply, bwat47.

Yeah, I've got compositing enabled in xfce.

Could this have anything to do with the way the xfce handles sound vs. how gnome 3 handles sound?
