Computer "dies" when start some programs

The computer "dies" and the screen turns off but the computer is still running.
This happens when I try to use gimp, FL studio (through wine), monopoly, volumeicon etc

I use fluxbox. Kernel version is 3.0-ARCH.

I have a Dell Latitude D531.

Re: Computer "dies" when start some programs

When you say the computer "dies", do you mean that the backlight turns off, that the screen is blank but the backlight is still on, or something else.

I'm not an expert, so hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will have a look too, but nothing really stood out to me in the Xorg.0.log file.  Perhaps you should look in the dmesg log and see what it says.

Does any of the keyboard commands still work?  Perhaps some way of exiting xorg immediately after it happens?

I laugh, yet the joke is on me
