DELL L501X: Can turn touchpad off, can't turn it back on.

Ok so I have a Dell L501X running arch and all this considered it's taken to it like a trooper and handles pretty much everything I throw at it. The one thing that niggles me is that it has a button for toggling the touchpad, it's possible to turn it off but once off, I cannot reactivate the touchpad until I reboot.
I'm currently running a fully updated Arch build with Gnome 3, and when pressing the toggle key I get appropriate logo's popping up on screen (touchpad with a cross through it, touchpad without a cross through it) but once the button's pushed, that's it.
Touchpad gone.

This wouldn't be such a problem if the disable key wasn't adjascent to my backspace and my f12 (which I use for pulling down Guake) and I've had far too many accidental pressings.

Not even sure where to start with this, thoughts?

I have the same machine as you and have the same problem. I didn't know about guake, but installed it (because I used to use yakuake years ago and it's similar). I reassigned guake to ctrl+down-arrow and it solves that key problem.

I have this issue on a similar laptop (DELL L502X), but the workout mentioned un the link didn't work for me...
