Wow... these things are really cool.
Yeah, I know they've been around for a while, but I "finally" got around to buying my first USB flash drive and it works perfectly in Arch. It's going to save me lots of time because I had been copying files back and forth between computers using CDs, but this is much faster, and far less troublesome. This drive is 512 Mb, but it's working so well I'm going to buy one of the 1 Gb drives on Tuesday.
Anyone that doesn't already have one might want to check them out. 8)

In computer terms that is quite an understatement! They are pretty useful when running Arch Linux without an internet connection tho, esp those BIG pkgs! Download at the inet cafe, upload at home

They also work nice with am-lug (and I assume its son, Archie, which I am downloading right now) for carrying your own system everywhere you go.

I like the ones you find left in a computer that have pictures of girls you know in wet t-shirt contests.

I've always thought USB flash devices were great! Not only are they useful for any computer nerd but they also make great gifts!

I waited forever to buy because you didn't get much memory for your buck, but those sizes worth having are finally becoming affordable. 8)

awesome...do you still have them?
I got mine free - a mate gave it to me having nicked it from work whne he left - hilariously he thought it was a 32mb as that is what he had kept for himself but it turned out to be 256Mb

I'm in Wilmington by Wrightsville Beach and UNCW so that type of thing isn't very unusual...

Unfortunately no. It actually belonged to a friend of mine well, classmate at college, so I gave it back to him. One of the girls was actually his girlfriend, so I didn't feel good about saving any of them them.
...ah hell, what was I thinking!

I don't have a flash drive (yet). But I have something similar. I can use my 128mb iriver mp3 player to go back and forth between computers. The only downside is both computers have to have the ifp drivers. But thats not too bad since they are in the Extra repo.

I find that anything less than 256mb is pointless with my data (GIS, remote sensing data) and image files. I like to carry around a good collection, so I went with a 512mb SanDisk Micro. I always find myself looking at the big blue led on the end.

Yeah, my first usb flash drive was the 512mb SanDisk Mini Cruzer and it's been very good so far. I know what you mean about the big led on the end... very easy to see when it's mounted. Last week I bought one of the 1gb Corsair Flash Voyagers (got a great price at NewEgg). It's great too, and is faster than the SanDisk, but isn't as thin in design so I can't insert them both in the front of my box at the same time.
I'd highly recommend either of them. 8)

hehe... yeah, I like them so well I bought another 512mb mini cruzer this afternoon, too. This makes two of the 512mb mini cruzers and one of the corsair voyager 1gb drives I've purchased in the last few weeks. Just love those things. 8)
I plan to keep important files on the 1gb drive but will be trying to boot some of the mini linux distros off of the 512mb drives.
