See title... GStreamer may work for an audio player like Rhythmbox or Muine - but for movie players, it SUCKS! It just can't play as many things as Xine... So using it with Totem is just stupid.
Please pardon my rant.
And while we're at it, why the heck does the Totem mozilla plugin not compile at all when I add --enable-mozilla to the PKGBUILD? The thing compiles... It just just compiles without the plugin, despite the presence of the required option!

Did you install gstreamer-plugins?

Maybe it need certain mozilla headerfiles which aren't installed on your system?

xine has other issues that GStreamer has (xine sucks when it comes to dual display, 32:9 is not a standard widescreen format, and when you put it fullscreen to one display, it becomes 16:4.5, half the height of the movie :X)
GStreamer displays movies fine here, though the CPU usage is a bit high. About the stupid mozilla plugin: don't even bother compiling it, in the 1.0.x version it is broken anyways and in the 1.1.x version it fails with some assertions and doesn't display movie at all (instead it hangs up your browser).

Ahh, alright... Thanks.

You can just install gst-ffmpeg and it will play everything.

Nope, it won't. FFMpeg doesn't work with win32 codecs, so some things won't work. The problem is that those things - Quicktime files and certain Windows Media files - are the most commonly used media formats on the web, for some stupid reason.

Actually, it seems to work with them for me but very poorly. Oh well, I use MPlayer for that sort of stuff.

I love MPlayer, but I absolutely hate its GUI, and all the other GUIs for it I've found. What it needs is something equivalent to GXine...
(Another problem with totem compiled against GStreamer: sounds tend to be out of sync with graphics when you play a movie. Also, when you start another application or open a menu, the movie stutters under GStreamer, whereas Xine keeps on playing.)

The Gxine in aur has been patched, with a new fileselector and a nice new snapshot dialog. you might want to try that
Freedom is what i love

Yeah, I have. GXine is quite nice... The mozilla plugin won't play embedded video though, and the lack of a desktop entry is a bit annoying.
