[SOLVED] [Dell Inspiron 11Z] Brightness is not adjustable

Hi guys,
My girlfriend owns a Dell Inspiron 11Z on which I recently installed ArchLinux. The only problem is that the brightness of the screen is not adjustable, neither with the Fn-Key combination nor with any other tool I know.
I searched the forums and the internet but she seems to be the only one suffering from this issue. Can this be fixed?

Thanks in advance,
blackdeagle

What DE/WM are you using?  It may require you to bind the brightness command to that key.

Try one of these: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/La … brightness

Using KDE ^^ Sry, forgot to mention it.
How do I bind the keys? Simply via the "Global Shortcut" setting in systemsettings??

Re: [SOLVED] [Dell Inspiron 11Z] Brightness is not adjustable

It will be one of the commands I just linked to.  You don't have to use laptop-mode-tools, just the commands that it utilizes.

Edit: Sorry, I don't know KDE well enough to help you with the keybinding part.  But if the command line works, then at least you know that it can adjust the brightness, and then it's just a matter of making it more convenient through a keybinding.

Maybe this link will help?  http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=66 … ut#p203016

Re: [SOLVED] [Dell Inspiron 11Z] Brightness is not adjustable

Well, the keybindings didn't work and trying echo 5 > /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness also didn't work (that's what the keybindings do), so I searched again and I found this article.
It says I should try adding acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor to the kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst so I did and it worked!!

Thanks a lot for your help!!

Thread may be closed smile

/E: I don't know why I didn't found the article before^^
