Hello everyone!
I am running awesome and I want to configure xterm/urxvt to have a different color scheme on startup. After following the indications in the wiki regarding .Xresources, I restarted X and the changes are not in effect. What should I do?
Some observations:
* The file has +rx for all:
4.0K -rwxr-xr-x 1 521 Sep 15 10:40 .Xresources* /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc has:
userresources=$HOME/.Xresources
..
if [ -f "$userresources" ]; then
xrdb -merge "$userresources"
fi* Contents of ~/.xinitrc:
xrdb -load ~/.Xresources &
exec awesome* If I run "xrdb -load ~/.Xresources" and then fire up xterm/urxvt, nothing is changed.

Have you tried
xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources?

Yes, and nothing changed. I suppose it is automatically run by xinit anyway as long as it is there in xinitrc.

Sorry I wasn't precise: you need to open a new terminal to see the changes.
Run
xrdb -merge ~/.Xresourcesand open a new terminal - preferably from the terminal, so you can see if you get any errors regarding the new color scheme e.g.
[karol@black ~]$ xterm
error: cannot load blah blah blahOffline
God, I'm dumb
I actually did exactly what you said from the beginning, but I got no error/warning message (not from xterm, nor from urxvt). However, when I copied the color scheme from a website, I got the line numbers somehow also copied.
Now everything works. Thanks! ![]()
