New Gnome Installation Not Responding

I've just installed Arch Linux along with xorg, xorg-utils, xorg-apps, dbus, gnome, gnome-extra and gnome-shell. When I log into gnome I can move the mouse around but anything I click on is not responding? Any help much appreciated - thanks

did you skip installing metacity?

also installing the whole xorg is a bit overkill now you have all drivers existent in the opensource universe

I checked - metacity gets installed as part of the gnome group installation

I uninstalled gnome-shell and when it falls back to metacity it works. However, I would like to get gnome-shell working if possible.
