Change in brightness causes crash

I m using arch 3.0 on a dell studio 1558. Whensover I try to change the screen brightness using the keyboard, the system hangs up and shows the bootup screen. None of the things work then. The same screen is shown whensover the laptop hangs at bootup (rarely).
I have just started using arch, please help.

P.S. the bootup screen that pops up/is shown at hanging shows while udevd starting up.

Same problem here, on same machine. It crashes only when running X and pushing the brightness button fast. No difference if using propietary of open-source video card driver.
Any idea how to solve this?

Same here.

it's a ATI 4330 graphics card on 1464 dell laptop.

This problem only occurs on open source driver.

is there a solution?

i have the same problem on dell 1564 with ati 4330 open source driver.arch hangs and boot time outputs shows with large font when i change brightness too fast.i hope someone have a fix for this.
