No sound with xf86-video-ati driver

Hello!

I have a system with an AMD HD6970 card. When I recently did a fresh install with the latest 3.0 kernel, I've noticed that if I use the proprietary catalyst drivers, my HDMI sound works well by passing the

radeon.audio=1

parameter to the kernel. However, when I use the xf86-video-ati driver my X works, but I have no sound.

I've issued

aplay -l

which says my card is 0 and device is 3. Naturally, I tried

aplay -D plughw:0,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front*

which executes ok, telling me that the files are being played, however, I still have no sound. Also, in alsamixer, the only toggle is the SPDIF and it's unmuted.

Any ideas on what might be happening?

Thanks in advance?

Re: No sound with xf86-video-ati driver

Are you using

radeon.audio=1

with opensource drivers too?

Yes I am. I've tried taking it out but to no avail.
