Screen Flicker on HP dm1z (AMD E-350)

I'm experiencing an issue where after my screen shuts off to power save, when it comes back up the backlight flickers quite visibly. I have already attempted the fix on:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI

I have done a bit of Googling and looking around the forums and it seems like people have a similar issue but only when changing brightness, this is not the case for me. If it's of any importance I'm on open-source ATi drivers and Gnome 3.x.

Thanks in advance for all the help Arch community.

I'm seeing this on a dm1z as well. Have you managed to find a solution?

The same problem on HP 4720s, ATI Radeon HD 6300. I understand that the solution is not found?

Same issue here with a Sony Vaio VPCEC1M1E. The screen flickers very annoyingly after the screensaver. I have noticed that it does so much less with Debian and Centos, and much more with Fedora. Maybe a question of loaded kernel modules, but I have trouble understanding which one to unload.

Does it also happen with the Catalyst drivers?

Sorry, thanks for reminding me: it happens with both free and proprietary drivers. So unfortunatly my laptop is forcing me to be not so environment-friendly, as I have to disable the screensaver and power settings.
