Hey. I have a problem booting the live CD.
When I put the CD in my PC it boots fine, until I choose to start up the Arch Installer. Then it just gets stuck at "Booting the kernel"
The CD works fine on another PC I have. Stole it's dvddrive to see if that was the problem, without success tho.
I have been running BackTrack alot of times on both of the PCs, but that won't boot properly either. Only on the other PC -.-
I burned Arch x84_x64 out on 700mb CD-R. Also tried 32bit.
I've taken all of my harddrives out of my PC except for a totally clean and formatted 1TB Seagate harddrive, which I want the Arch distribution on. For my desktop PC.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: typo
EDIT2: Tried CTKArch to get feeling of Arch while w8ing for reply. Wouldn't boot either

No one have an idea?

It could still be a hardware problem. Do other (live) systems boot, e.g. Ubuntu or the like?

have you tried adding some kernel parameters for debugging? like 'acpi=off acpid=off pnp-bios=off ...': http://www.cyberciti.biz/howto/question … meters.php
but of course, just printing 'booting the kernel' is really bad for debbuging and looks like i/o-error. what are your hardware specs?

I did try Backtrack and CTKArch, same problem. Did use Backtrack on that same PC alot, not long ago.
The Backtrack DVD worked fine when I booted it up on another PC.
Will post my specs when I get home. Can still use the Arch CD for hardware info though.

Perhaps you have an .iso for the wrong system mode, i686 vs x86_64>>>>

Have you tried the safe video mode - it's one of the options on the menu but I can't remember the exact wording, something like "safe .... something". Sounds likely to be a hardware issue to me. I also read somewhere that it can be a good idea to disconnect things like usb devices etc. but I can't verify if that makes a real difference since I haven't had any problem. Mind you, I only have a usb mouse driver and errr.... that's it!

I have tried both 64 and 32bit. My comp is 64bit.
Intel Duo-Core 2.40MHz
2x Kingston 512kb
2x Corsair 2048kb
ATI Radeon HD 5770

Just saw this in the wiki "If using an Intel video chipset and the screen goes blank during the boot process, the problem is likely an issue with kernel mode setting.... https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners'_Guide#OS_System_Start "
Tried adding both parameters without luck

Should I try booting from an USB pen, or wouldn't that make a difference?

Marked as "Solved"
No useful information about how this problem was figured out.
Great.
