Legacy mesa dying :(

I know this is late but I just read about mesa 7.12 on phoronix: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=n … &px=OTg0Mg

I was obviously upset because I use an r128 card. I am also in the rare situation of still benefiting from mesa updates because I use a radeon card as well. How is this going to affect the Arch packages? Are the developers delighted at being able to drop the *-dri packages for old hardware? Or are these old packages going to be kept around with their dependencies changed to an old version of mesa? A more naive question to ask is: are there any heroic patching efforts under way aiming to have Arch's mesa 7.12 still ship with Voodoo/SiS/Matrox/etc support?

I have not completely ruled out the possibility of trying to contribute to this myself. The mesa devs will presumably accept patches that update their old DRI1 drivers to use DRI2, but migrating between these two APIs is probably an order of magnitude harder than migrating a GUI app from gtk2 to gtk3. There's also the proposed radeon/r128 merge: http://www.botchco.com/agd5f/?p=4 that would fix this problem for me. I was excited about this before there was any threat of my card being abandoned because I wanted xrandr support. Then of course, the project died. Until I figure this out, it looks like I will have to freeze my mesa version (and everything that depends on it). What are your thoughts? Is anyone else outraged?

Outraged? I don't pay them, they don't owe me anything.

Re: Legacy mesa dying :(

We've got four systems that still use Matrox Millennium G400/G450 AGP cards ...
