[SOLVED] gnome shell, no desktop recording?

Hello, quick question:

The 'Control+Shift+Alt+R' for recording one's desktop to a webm video seems to be not-present in the Arch version of Gnome Shell. The Gnome page about this feature mentions that it might not be.

I'm wondering if it's possible to add it in and if so, how? (I'm not after step by step instructions, just pointing in the right direction) I've had a search and not turned anything up.

Thanks!

Re: [SOLVED] gnome shell, no desktop recording?

Hi dgesh,

Screen recording with that shortcut works fine for me here.
- It brings up a small red circle in the bottom right of the screen when recording, press the key combo again and it stops recording.
The webm video is saved in the home directory.

I don't think I've done anything crazy with my gnome shell install (it's gnome 3 - am waiting for gnome 3.2 to hit extra in a few days).
Have just followed the wiki here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gnome
- and have installed: gnome-shell gnome gnome-extra

If it makes a difference, I'm running the nvidia binary drivers too.

Work smart, not hard.

Hmmm, interesting. Thanks Rhubarb.

Mine's a basic install, also with nividia binaries. 64bit, wonder if that matters?

Thanks for the info though. I'll continue to poke around.

Re: [SOLVED] gnome shell, no desktop recording?

Just upgraded to gnome 3.2, and desktop recording still works for me.
I'm also running a 64bit arch install here.

I can try to see if screen recording works on my other arch gnome 3 installs later.

For the sake of anyone else who has this:

I just had to install the gstreamer0.10-plugins group and then it worked.

Thanks to a couple of people on the (#archlinux) IRC channel. And to Rhubarb for trying to help smile

Re: [SOLVED] gnome shell, no desktop recording?

Was wondering if someone could help me out with this.  I know the poster has marked this as solved, and can open up a new thread if need be, but after installing the gstreamer packages, as well as all gnome packages listed, screen recording is not possible.  When I checkout dconf, to see if it's merely a problem with the shortcut not being set, there is a bug that shrinks the display window to the point of not being able to see anything.  Does anyone else have this issue?  Am running Gnome 3.2 with all the latest updates...

Re: [SOLVED] gnome shell, no desktop recording?

@dgesh try installing all of the gstreamer plugins:

pacman -S gstreamer0.10-base-plugins gstreamer0.10-good-plugins gstreamer0.10-bad-plugins gstreamer0.10-ugly-plugins gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg

If you already have them installed it'll show the following:

warning: gstreamer0.10-base-plugins-0.10.35-1 is up to date -- reinstalling
warning: gstreamer0.10-good-plugins-0.10.30-1 is up to date -- reinstalling
warning: gstreamer0.10-bad-plugins-0.10.22-3 is up to date -- reinstalling
warning: gstreamer0.10-ugly-plugins-0.10.18-4 is up to date -- reinstalling
warning: gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg-0.10.12-1 is up to date -- reinstalling

I also have clutter-gst installed. The video files should appear in your home folder in webm format (which contains vp6 or ogg media).
