Network problems with KDE/Gnome

I use ndiswrapper for my wireless card.  It worked without a hitch up until the release of KDE 3.4.  Since then, whenever I load my wireless, many GTK based programs like gaim will unexpectedly freeze, and Konquerer can't do any local browsing.  My wireless card is a Ralink RT2500.  I have been told to use the rt2500 driver (http://sourceforge.net/projects/rt2400/), however I can't seem to get that to find any access points (any help there would be appreciated too).  I've also noticed that I have these problems when I use ethernet.  What's wrong with the networking portion of KDE that's doing this, or what have I done wrong?  :?
