using 3.0 kernel, program requires 2.6 kernel...

i'm currently using the 3.0-ARCH kernel, but i'm trying to install smartboard drivers (i'm a trainee teacher) and when i try to install the package i downloaded from the smart website i get the following (using autopackage)

[gav@archbang SMART Product Drivers 10]$ package install drivers.package

# Preparing package: SMART Software Drivers Wrapper
# Checking for 253.76 MB at /opt ... passed
# Checking for 510.56 MB at /tmp ... passed
# Checking for 2.6.x Kernel ... failed
FAIL: Unable to prepare package SMART Software Drivers Wrapper.

it appears i need a 2.6 kernel

is there anything i can do to install this? i know i could install a 2.6 kernel, i'm hoping there's some sort of compatibility library or something i can install instead though...

This is one of the reasons Linus decided to increment the kernel version. You'll need to ask the company who produced the smartboards, if they're still active they should have/write new drivers (possibly not hard, but that depends on them) by now. Or they may just ask you to use an older distro.

If the installer is some sort of script, you could maybe hack it to check for the 3.x kernel. Another option would be using the LTS kernel.
