Laptop Tray Doesn't Work

Hey,

I have an HP Pavillion dv6 and ever since installing Arch Linux, I haven't been able to get my DVD tray to work. This includes opening it and booting from CD/DVD drive. Has anyone else encountered this?

Mike

How exactly are you opening it? https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/25609
I think you need to set your boot order in BIOS to be able to boot from your optical drive.

My boot order is set with CD/DVD drive to the top precedence. I have to press a button on the side of my computer and it does not respond.

As a temporary workaround, I suggest adding

echo 2000 > /sys/module/block/parameters/events_dfl_poll_msecs

to your rc.local.

Does that work for you?

Re: Laptop Tray Doesn't Work

I modified rc.local, yet the problem remains. My CD/DVD tray is unresponsive. I am really confused by this because I have other laptops running Arch Linux that don't have this problem.

You need to reboot in order for the changes to take effect.
If you've done this and it still doesn't work, I'm clueless as to what's wrong.

Re: Laptop Tray Doesn't Work

I have the same machine and it's like that in windows 7 for me as well as Linux. I have to press it multiple times, sometimes as many as 4 before it will open. I think this is a hardware issue with that particular drive.

I can eject it fine in windows 7 by right clicking it's icon in my computer and selecting eject however.
