mouse dead after leaving pc on overnight

I just got my first "root partition is full" warning, and read that pacman -Scc would clean it up. It did! THEN I read that you shouldn't use the -Scc, that -Sc is as far as you want to go. Seems like that happens to me a lot.

All seemed to go well, everything worked, so I though "No problem." now, well, I have a problem. After leaving the computer on overnight, my mouse is dead. It's a usb, generic mouse. It uses an led to show that it's powered up, and when I check it after setting for a few hours, the light isn't on. It comes on as soon as the bios loads, so I'm surprised that Arch even affects it, but I think the mouse is connected to the X window process. Google didn't give me any clue, and searching the forum drew a blank (for me, anyways). Searching for "mouse" in the wiki didn't work, either. I guess I could just shut it down and restart it, but I'd like to be able to let it sit overnight. Any idea what I broke?

Do you have a power saving feature enabled that might disable unused/inactive usb ports?

I have what I'd call a "standard" install, as I've had Arch working for perhaps 5 or 6 months now. I haven't altered anything from the net install, as far as I remember.

After posting the problem, I let my computer "sit," and watched it to see what happened. The screen goes dark after maybe 15 minutes (screensaver, I suppose) and the mouse light stayed on. Then, after maybe another 25 minutes, something must send a shutdown signal to the system. The mouse light went off, but what alerted me was the speakers making a popping noise, like I had unplugged them. So it's a shutdown issue, with the mouse and probably all of Xorg going down, but the computer stays on.

What is your setup? Are using a DE? I ask because it can make a difference with what is controlling your power saving settings.

I'm using gnome. I went into "system settings" and turned off the power saver. Seems to have worked, just let the computer idle for over four hours and it didn't crash.
