[SOLVED] Left channel sounds disappears with every boot
I have a strange situation where after every boot, the sound in the left channel disappears (I don't say muted, because the right channel plays fine).
In order to get the left channel playing, I go to "sound settings", "hardware", highlight "internal Audio", then click on "Test Speakers". If I click on "Front Left" first, then I don't hear anything; however, when I click on "Front Right", I hear the words "Front Right", then when I click on "Front Left" again, I now hear the words "Front Left" until my next boot. After the boot I have to repeat this process again if I want to hear stereo music etc.
This has happened since the Gnome 3.2 update. With 3.0 the sound was fine.
My card: card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 2: ALC1200 Analog [ALC1200 Analog]
Any advice is appreciated!

I have no clue as to why after 2 days of installing only upgrades, the sound problem resurfaced. I checked my logs, and I can't figure out why I'm having this problem.

I'm not sure this will work for you, but in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf I entered:
options snd-hda-intel model=auto probe_mask=1
When I rebooted, it worked fine, at least for now. Also, because I could hear a "thump" sound when the sound engaged during boot in my speaker, I also entered the following two lines which took care of the thump.
options snd-hda-intel power_save=0
options snd-hda-intel power_save_controller=N
