Hi all. I just wanted to introduce myself as a fellow Arch user (dual-boot with Gentoo). My name's Peter and I'm 19. I've been using GNU/Linux since Fedora Core 1 (wow...almost three years now), Gentoo for about half of that. It was recently suggested to me by a friend that I try Arch. So I downloaded/burned the ISO and installed it to a slave 20GB disk last night. Let me simply say WOW. The install went very smooth (except for me accidentally trying to use the wrong wireless driver :oops: ) and so far pacman has been absolutely fantastic. I also really like the way the initscripts are handled (massively configurable, yet simple to do so) and I like how it has excellent default settings. I got a working system with ALSA (USB headset) and my wireless PCMCIA card in a very short time. I also really like the Arch logo instead of Tux when booting with a framebuffer and the nifty colorscheme of Grub and the boot scripts (yeah I know but it's the little things that make a difference sometimes). I also really like its KISS philosophy.

Anyways, I just wanted to say "Hi and thank you" and to the Arch community for such a great distro.

welcome... and enjoy your stay with Arch - just try to ignore the people who talk smack about gentoo (I'm guilty of it at some times) 8)

Hey codergeek42, welcome to Arch! I remember you well from over at the Gentoo boards (hard to forget that avatar of yours) -- you've had a bunch of great comments and seem to be really helpful. I think you'll be a great addition to the board here!

every distro should have a few codergeeks

you say you're 19 so that means that you must leave gentoo soon(only people who are 0-19 use gentoo)

Welcome to the board codergeek! Have you tried ABS yet? It's very similar to portage.

Had a friend tell me that the init scripts were like freebsd's, meaning sane. After doing some reading found it to be true and wiped ubuntu off to come here.

hello dust,
those noob friendly distros could be a real pita to use, after the arch initial install/setup it's a breeze to use with great stability,
