/proc not mounting ==> mkinitcpio fails

When configuring the system, all the scripts look fine but /sbin/mkinitcpio fails to execute:

 STARTING mkinitcpio . Executing chroot /mnt /sbin/mkinitcpio -p linux >>/var/log/aif/mkinitcpio.log 2>&1\n
/sbin/mkinitcpio: line 160: 4047 Segmentation fault	mountpoint -q /proc
==> ERROR: /proc must be mounted!

I tried changing line 160 in the script from /proc to /mnt/proc but that didn't work.

Is this a real bug or is there a known workaround? I've installed Arch on a couple of other computers with the 2010.05 image with no problems.  This 2011.08.19 is the first to give me errors.
