Thanks

You're not giving any info at all, in the first place. What laptop, does this happen on other distros/OS?

Lenovo y470. uhm.. well I got this laptop like just a month ago and I installed/tried only Archlinux.
When I start archlinux the redlight doesn't appear but when start NetworkManager, a redlight appears from the headphone jacket.
To be more precise
When the i login to archlinux, if I have "NetworkManager" in my rc.conf or when I start it from the command line I immediately see the red light appearing from the headphone jack !

That redlight is an optical/digital audio output, i don't know why networkmanager has this effect, but i don't think you have to worry about.
Help me to improve ssh-rdp !

If I'm not mistaken, modem and audio chips are often the same... Maybe NetworkManager is somehow loading the modem driver, which in turn activates optical audio? Sounds a bit weird, but that's all I can think of .

Does S/PDIF come out of 3.5mm jacks often or is that just a way of saving space?

and another funny thing ... when I mute the volume the redlight disappears and when I increase it, the red light reappears !!!
On google-ing I found that this has something to do with the audio drivers.
How do I know what audio drivers to install ?

I would try not to install but to blacklist the modem and/or spdif driver. See if you can find something in "lsmod | grep snd" that looks like it...
Alternatively, look at the wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ad … DIF_Output
It explains how to enable S/PDIF...
I also found something that might apply to your laptop at http://http.download.nvidia.com/XFree86 … -0261.html:
nvaudio Module Parameters
The nForce audio driver supports the following optional parameters:
1. spdif_status
spdif_status
The "spdif_status" module parameter is used to enable or disable S/PDIF support in the driver. By default S/PDIF is enabled, but can be disabled by setting spdif_status to 0.
