I used to be able to play Windows Media Video files in mplayer, but I think since I've upgraded to the newer codec pack (codecs-20050412-1), it has stopped.... or something happened anyway -- I'm not sure where I went wrong. Anyway, both mplayer and xine crash whenever I try to play a WMV on my nvidia-based XFCE desktop (not using renderaccel or transparency). Xine doesn't seem to give me any feedback on the crash, but from the crashing mplayer, I get this:
MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: decode_video
- MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM.
Recompile MPlayer with --enable-debug and make a 'gdb' backtrace and
disassembly. Details in DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports_what.html#bugreports_crash.
- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and
won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.
It should be noted that I can play avis and mpegs just fine in either viewer. Any ideas, anyone?
thanks

Thanks for the feedback. As far as I know, I haven't altered anything. Yes, I've tried several WMVs (that used to work just fine), and none seem to work any longer. It's strange...

only other thing i can think of is try it from su - terminal. may exclude permission errors - if its that

Just watch your WMV's under Windows. DRM really makes Media Player stand out from the crowd
